Berkeley History

Earlier this year the Berkeley Local History Group in partnership with the Berkeley Community Trust was awarded a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to players of the National Lottery. The grant is to support our project Capturing the stories of our past, for our present and our future: Memories of living with, and adapting to, the first English commercial nuclear power station and the Berkeley Nuclear Laboratories on our doorstep. The project started on 1 April and on 18th September we launched our Berkeley History website at www.berkeleyhistory.org.uk. The funding is specifically to capture the stories of people who lived and worked here since the middle of the last century so at the moment we are focussing on putting up stories and memories from the middle of last century onwards. We hope that the wider history of the area will be described as well before very long.
